Difference between Drawing , Embossing and Forming dies.

DRAWING DIES

Drawing Dies. — In this type of dies blank are turned into cylindrical or bowl shape by flowing the sheet metal into desired profile with help of Punch and die . There are different types of drawing dies, like plan, single or multiple acting die.
A very simple design of plain drawing die contains a die and punch where a blank is held by a blank holder to avoid the wrinkles. After the clutch of the press is engaged, the punch de-scends and forces the flat blank through the die opening (as indicated by the right-hand view), thus forming it into a cup , bowl or cylindrical geometry .
With the punch retrieving back , Drawn part are ejected through the push mechanism straight from the top.
Such dies are not adapted to drawing stock thinner than, say, 2.5 or 1.5 mm.
In other type of drawing die we blank holder is used to avoid any kind of wrinkles. .
The method of taking die and punch’s profile for a particular blank depends upon many conditions.
A Blank can be drawn in to profile and can be trimmed in another die and when the press ram de-scends (after the clutch has been tripped by the operator additional drawing operations in separate redrawing dies are necessary.

EMBOSSING DIES

Embossing Dies. —Used to make an impression like a text or similar kind design.
An embossing die are the type of forming dies where the formed profile are very small and of a fixed pattern.
Making of letters, a group of symbols or other small but patterned profile on a sheet metal parts are an example of embossing operation
Circular ridges to be made on tin canes are the example of embossing operation.
Such a die would have one or more annular grooves and the punch would have annular ridges of corresponding size for forcing the metal into the die grooves.

FORMING DIES

Forming Die. — These dies differs from the Drawing dies as in forming dies the shape of die and punch is given to the blank sheet but applying force with Press Ram.
It can be anything like a simple profile complicated profile or a contour profile, but the method will be same . just to keep the blank sheet and to deformed with help of punch and die with same profile as per component.
